Try to place boxes which will need to be accessed the most in the very front. No one wants to climb all over things in order to get to the boxes that you need. It will be smart to place all the boxes that you need to use frequently off to the side while you load everything else. Then on the flip side of the move these things will be the last to come off the truck which means they will be readily accessible for you.

Make sure the unit you are going to use will fit everything securely. When talking to the property manager, ensure that you discuss with them what you are storing. This way they will be able to recommend the best self storage unit that will work for you. They will recommend something that is not too small or something that is not too big. It is a great idea still to walk to your storage unit with the property manager in order to see what the unit looks like. Tell those moving your boxes to be gentle. You will want to be careful with what is being moved around. Most people will as for help moving so they will ask any and everyone to help. Unfortunately with that said your hired help might just throw boxes around or set them down abruptly. If you hire movers, they typically are gentle but it does not hurt to tell them to be gentle with your belongings.

Be sure to label boxes, so they can go on the top of stacked boxes. This way when it is time to move or put the boxes where they go you can see which box is which. One of the worst things that can happen is that you misplace a box and you can not find it until you do not need it. Make sure that you label all sides of the box so no matter which way you stack it, you can see which room the box will go.
